My hotel was a chic new NY fixture in the meat-packing district called The Standard. It is angular and straddles a newly opened elevated park.

You have to take stairs up to the park, which was created on abandoned railroad tracks. It's all very NY and trendy, I suppose.

Tall grass and flowers seem to flourish on old railroad tracks. ;-)

As sunset approached I took a walk along the hudson toward Battery park, hoping to catch the Statue of Liberty.
It seemed though, that the sun set much faster than I walked.
While I didn't reach the Statue of Liberty in daylight, I was quite happy with the sunset views along the Hudson.
There were, not surprisingly, lots of marinas, restaurants, and other interesting places along the Hudson.

Of course, no visit to NYC is complete without a view of the Statue of Liberty. Despite my many trips there, this was actually my first glimpse of her. I was always too busy to do the tourist stuff.
